AEA is about to launch a new journal
International Journal of Education and Ageing (IJEA). This new international journal will, we feel, re-launch the mission of our original journal, Education and Ageing, which was published by the Association through the University of Keele (and latterly by Triangle Publications) from 1985-2003, while also responding to today’s conditions and contexts. LARA
LARA (Learning as a Response to an Ageing Society) is a European project involving the University of Leicester, which is looking at curriculum issues around ageing in society - not just about older people. This first issue of their newsletter indicates progress in this area. LARA newsletter 1

EUROPEAN YEAR FOR ACTIVE AGEING AND INTERGENERATIONAL SOLIDARITY

NEW PUBLICATION
A new book by AEA member Alex Withnall, “Improving Learning in Later Life” is now available. It offers a critical overview of the development of theoretical and philosophical approaches to later life learning that have developed over the last three decades, drawing on published work from the USA, UK, Australia and other countries, and documents the individual experiences of older people through a variety of methods. AEA RESPONSE TO GOVERNMENT POLICIES AND INITIATIVES
It is early days yet to know how the present government will respond to the needs of older learners, although Prime Minister David Cameron has already expressed his support in principle for the importance of adult learning (see IN THE PRESS lower down on this page)
However there was a plethora of government consultation and policy initiatives from the previous government in 2009, to which AEA was active in responding. For further details see our archive here: AEA response to govt consultations
