Frank Glendenning Lecture
The 2009 Frank Glendenning memorial lecture took place at Lancaster University on Thursday 2nd April and was well attended by AEA members, other delegates to the conference and members of the public.
The speaker was Professor Keith Percy, Director of the School of Lifelong Learning and Widening Participation at Lancaster University. The title of his lecture was “The Owl of Minerva: Wisdom, Experience and Learning in Later Life” and the topics he covered included a review of developments in research and educational provision for older people over the past thirty years. He also highlighted the important role that universities have to play in this area and considered what might be the content of a national curriculum for older people.
Professor Percy's Powerpoint presentation for the lecture can be downloaded from http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/depts/conted/AEA_conference.htm
Please note you will require PowerPoint on your computer to open this presentation.
The full text of the lecture will be appearing later on this website.
Regional Consultations with older learners:
In the course of the year October 2008-2009, AEA held a number of regional events to consult with older people on the kinds of learning they are doing, or wish to do and how providers can work with them and with other partners to offer learning opportunities.
That first stage of the project has now been completed and a report on the results will be appearing shortly on this website.
We are now moving on to the next stage and have compiled an updated short questionnaire asking older people what place education and learning has in their lives. If you would like to help us by completing the questionnaire, it is available here in both .pdf and Microsoft Word formats. Please either print off your completed questionnaire and send it to the address on the form or alternatively you can e-mail is as an attachment to aeasecretary@googlemail.com Please put the phrase "AEA Older Learner Survey" in the subject box of your e-mail.
